Step 1: Campaign Setup
When a company creates a campaign, the smart contract creates several on-chain accounts:
- Campaign Account: Stores campaign parameters (commission rate, budget, targeting)
- Escrow Account: Holds the campaign budget in USDC or SOL
- Attribution Registry: Tracks which affiliates are participating
Step 2: Link Generation
Each affiliate gets a unique tracking identifier derived from their wallet address and the campaign ID. This is implemented as a Program Derived Address (PDA) — a deterministic address computed from the affiliate’s public key and the campaign’s public key. No cookies needed.
Step 3: Conversion Recording
When a conversion occurs, the recording transaction includes:
- The affiliate’s PDA (proving which affiliate drove the conversion)
- The campaign ID
- The conversion value
- A timestamp
- Optional metadata (conversion type, product ID, etc.)
This transaction is signed and recorded on Solana’s ledger, creating a permanent, tamper-proof record.
Step 4: Automatic Settlement
The smart contract verifies the conversion data, calculates the commission based on the campaign’s rate, and transfers the commission from the escrow account to the affiliate’s wallet — all in a single atomic transaction.
If there are insufficient escrow funds, the transaction fails cleanly rather than creating an IOU.
Step 5: Challenge Period
After a conversion is recorded, there is a configurable hold period (based on affiliate tier) during which the conversion can be challenged. Higher-tier affiliates with proven track records have shorter hold periods, down to zero for Elite-tier affiliates.
